Terms in this definition
- DNS
The system that turns names into addresses. In Azure, private endpoints depend on private DNS zones, which are queried through 168.63.129.16.
- Object owner
Every Unity Catalog securable, and every workspace object such as a job or warehouse, has exactly one owner (IS OWNER), which can be a user, a group or a service principal. That owner holds every capability on the object, though child objects do not inherit the ownership.
- Domain
A way of grouping workspaces by area of the business, in support of a data mesh approach. Items take on their workspace's domain, letting you filter the OneLake catalog by it, and certain tenant settings can be passed to domain admins; domains have no effect on access permissions.
Related terms
- App Service custom domain
Host name bound to an App Service app once the service has confirmed an asuid TXT record and an A or CNAME record. Serving it over HTTPS also requires binding a TLS certificate.
- _dnsauth TXT record
A TXT record named
_dnsauth.<subdomain>that Front Door Standard/Premium checks to confirm you own a domain. It plays no part in routing. - Domain verification ID
The asuid TXT record must hold this per-app value, which App Service displays on its Custom domains page.
- MX
A DNS record type that can be used in place of a TXT record to prove you own a custom domain. Set a high priority value on it so that current mail delivery is not affected.
- SPF
A DNS TXT record naming which sources may send email for a domain, so receiving servers can catch spoofing. DMARC and DKIM complement it.
