Terms in this definition
- Availability zone
One or more datacentres in an Azure region that are physically apart from the rest and have their own power, cooling and network. If one zone fails, the others keep running.
- Standard deployment type
A Foundry deployment type billed per token that keeps processing of prompts and responses inside the Azure geography of the resource, meeting data residency needs at lower volumes.
- NAT gateway
Gives a subnet managed, outbound-only SNAT through static public IPs and is Microsoft's preferred explicit outbound option. Unsolicited inbound connections are never accepted.
- Subnet
A segment of a VNet's address space from which resources receive private IPs. Azure holds back five addresses per subnet (the first four and the last), leaving 251 usable in a /24 and three in a /29, the smallest IPv4 subnet.
Related terms
- Standard SKU public IP
Public IP that is always static and may be zone-redundant, zonal or IPv6. It blocks inbound traffic until an NSG permits it, and Bastion, Azure Firewall, VPN gateways and Standard Load Balancer all require it.
- Zone-resilient
Keeps working when an availability zone goes down, either by being zone-redundant or through zonal copies spread over several zones with failover between them.
