Terms in this definition

• Schema

  The middle part of a Unity Catalog name (catalog.schema.table), grouping tables, views, volumes, functions and models inside a catalog. A grant on it covers everything in it now and later, and nothing inside can be reached without USE SCHEMA.

• Cosmos DB

  NoSQL database distributed globally, offering writes in multiple regions, automatic indexing and latency below 10 ms.

• Snapshot isolation

  The only isolation level a Fabric warehouse uses; SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL has no effect. Because locks are taken per table, two transactions changing one table can clash, and the later one fails and has to be rerun.

• Logical partition

  Every Cosmos DB item with one particular partition key value. Transactions cannot cross it, and it is capped at 20 GB.

• API key (Foundry)

  Secret shared by callers of an Azure OpenAI or Microsoft Foundry endpoint, conferring full access without any role check. Passing it around eliminates separation of roles, and it offers no network isolation.

• App Service Environment

  Network-isolated, single-tenant deployment of App Service on the Isolated plan. Because its cost is much higher, it suits only workloads that demand isolation.

• Durability

  In ACID, the promise that a committed transaction remains committed: nothing it changed is lost, even when power fails and the system restarts.

• Fast Combine

  Popular nickname for Power Query's Ignore the Privacy Levels and potentially improve performance setting. Sources get merged with no privacy isolation, which may expose sensitive data, and service semantic models don't honour it.

  Fully managed Microsoft Foundry offering in which prompt, voice and hosted agents are created, deployed, run and scaled. Models, tools, guardrails, versioning, tracing and network isolation all come built in.
