Terms in this definition
- Traffic Manager
A global traffic router working purely through DNS, with methods such as priority, weighted, performance and geographic, for any protocol. HTTP traffic never passes through it and it caches no content.
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- Chat message roles
Labels on chat messages: instructions go under system, the person's input under user, the model's previous answers under assistant, and results returned by a called tool under tool (or function).
Related terms
- Apex domain
The bare domain without any subdomain (example.com), also known as the zone apex or root domain. Since a CNAME is not allowed there, routing it to a service like Front Door relies on CNAME flattening or Azure DNS alias records.
- Application Gateway
Layer-7 load balancer deployed per region, offering URL-based routing, TLS offload, cookie-based affinity and an optional WAF.
- ASN
Short for autonomous system number, which identifies a BGP routing domain. Azure VPN gateways use 65515 by default, a reserved value on-premises peers must avoid; Defender EASM also discovers ASNs as an internet asset type.
- Association
Routing setting for a Virtual WAN hub. Each connection is associated with exactly one route table, and that table determines the routes the connection learns.
- Azure Data Factory
Managed data integration service for ETL and ELT, built from pipelines, copy activities, triggers, mapping data flows and integration runtimes. It works in batches rather than routing individual transactions.
- Azure Relay
Messaging service connecting cloud and on-premises endpoints through outbound connections on port 443, without a VPN, inbound ports or VNet routing. The on-premises data gateway and App Service Hybrid Connections rely on it.
- BGP
Dynamic routing protocol used with both ExpressRoute and VPN connections. On ExpressRoute private peering it is the only way to exchange routes, including a 0.0.0.0/0 default route for forced tunnelling.
- Bridge all site links
Enabled by default, this makes site links transitive so the KCC may chain them for replication. Switching it off means manually created site link bridges govern routing.
