A repository that grows horizontally across tiers. Its performance tier is built from extents, each a standard or object storage repository, and object storage can add optional capacity and archive tiers on top.
Also called SOBR.

Terms in this definition
- Repository
A group of images or artefacts in a container registry that share one name and differ by tag. Names can include slash-separated namespaces, but every repository is handled separately.
- Performance tier
Choice made when a storage account is created and not changeable afterwards: Standard (HDD-based GPv2) or Premium (SSD) for latency and throughput. To cut costs for cold data, change the access tier instead.
- Standard deployment type
A Foundry deployment type billed per token that keeps processing of prompts and responses inside the Azure geography of the resource, meeting data residency needs at lower volumes.
- object storage repository
Long-term retention on cloud or on-premises S3-compatible object stores such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob or Wasabi. Jobs can write to it directly, or it can act as a capacity or archive tier in a scale-out repository.
- General-purpose v1
The older storage account kind (
Storage), which lacks access tiers, Archive and premium file shares and retires on 13 October 2026. Converting to ZRS requires first upgrading to GPv2, a one-way change. - Architecture Definition Document
A key deliverable bringing together the main architecture artifacts across the four domains for every relevant state: baseline, transition and target. It sets out, in qualitative terms, what the architect intends.
- Capacity
A reserved block of compute for a tenant whose size is fixed by its SKU; Fabric F SKUs express it in capacity units (CUs). Workspaces assigned to it unlock features like Copilot, and from F64 upwards people with free licences can view Power BI content.
- Archive
Offline access tier for blobs, cheapest to store yet dearest to access. Reading a blob means rehydrating it first, which can take as long as 15 hours.
Related terms
- backup file preference
A setting on a recovery location that chooses the source backups for a restore: Automatic (the latest restore point), Primary, Backup Copy or SOBR Capacity Tier. Failback ignores it.
- Veeam Data Cloud Vault
Cloud object storage run by Veeam as a managed service, which you add as an object storage repository or as an extent of a scale-out backup repository. Immutability cannot be switched off (minimum 30 days) and jobs writing there must be encrypted.
