Which Veeam ONE tasks belong in the Windows Client and which in the browser-based Web Client.
From Ultra Transcenders VONE-13 by Tony Rough (coming January 2027)
The two consoles look at the same data from different angles, and choosing the right one is the first decision in any monitoring task.
Veeam ONE Client works with data the Veeam ONE Monitoring Service collects in real time; Refresh ([F5]) retrieves the latest collected data. Veeam ONE Web Client works with reporting data collected on a schedule (weekdays at 3:00 a.m. by default) and offers dashboards made of widgets, the Report Catalog, Jobs Calendar, Alarms Overview, Deployment Projects and configuration.
| Need | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| See what is wrong right now and drill to the cause | Veeam ONE Client | Summary dashboards, alarms, real-time performance charts, in-guest processes and console |
| Week-over-week trends, top consumers, forecasts | Veeam ONE Web Client dashboards | Predefined vSphere and Hyper-V dashboards compare this week with last week and forecast shortages |
| Documented, schedulable output | Veeam ONE Web Client reports | Reports such as Inventory, vSphere Custom Performance and Raw Performance Data |
| Manage alarms, notification settings and monitored VMs | Veeam ONE Client | Alarm Management view, Notifications and Server Settings live in the Client |
What can be monitored also depends on the data collection mode. In the Veeam backup data only mode, vSphere and Hyper-V objects have inventory and configuration data but no performance data, so performance charts and performance-based views have nothing to show. See “Chapter 3: Connecting the infrastructure and collecting data”.
Common trap: Expecting Web Client dashboards to show a problem that started an hour ago - they are built from scheduled reporting data; for current state use Veeam ONE Client, which collects in real time.
