Which Veeam ONE reports use the new v13 engine and which still use the legacy engine and SSRS.
From Ultra Transcenders VONE-13 by Tony Rough (coming January 2027)
Veeam ONE 13 runs two reporting engines side by side. Introduced in version 13, reports for Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 are generated with an enhanced engine; all other report types, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware Cloud Director reports, still use the legacy engine.
| Aspect | New reporting engine (v13) | Legacy reporting engine |
|---|---|---|
| Reports | Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 reports | All other report types (vSphere, Hyper-V, VMware Cloud Director, and others) |
| Report layout | Summary and Report Data views; Filters; Group by; Columns; Auto-size all; column resizing | Paged report with page navigation, zoom, search, print |
| Display | In the Web Client | Browser pop-up window; pop-ups must be allowed for the Web Client |
| Interactive download | CSV or PDF; individual charts as PNG, SVG, JPEG or CSV | Export menu: Excel, Word or PDF (more formats when SSRS is integrated) |
| Scheduled formats | PDF and CSV, with page format, orientation and “Use actual width” for PDF and individual CSV files or a combined ZIP | Format chosen from the Report format list; Format Type options cannot be customised |
| SSRS | Not used | SSRS server can be integrated as an alternative to the default report viewer |
| Toolbar | Save, Schedule, Download, Edit parameters | Refresh, Back (from drill-down), export, print |
Common trap: Integrating SSRS to speed up slow backup reports - the SSRS server is not used for Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 reports on the new engine. SSRS integration only helps legacy-engine reports such as VMware, Hyper-V and VMware Cloud Director reports.
Common trap: Relying on Word or Excel output for backup reports in v13 schedules - the v13 release notes deprecate XML, Word and Excel for the new reporting engine, so Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 reports are generated only in PDF and CSV. Legacy-engine reports still offer those formats; downstream processes that parse Excel or XML output from backup reports need to move to CSV.
