Terms in this definition
- vSAN ESA
Newer vSAN design built for NVMe, with one tier and storage pools rather than disk groups. OSA is the older design, using two tiers.
- General-purpose v1
The older storage account kind (
Storage), which lacks access tiers, Archive and premium file shares and retires on 13 October 2026. Converting to ZRS requires first upgrading to GPv2, a one-way change. - Exclusions
Scopes taken out of a policy assignment; they can only narrow its coverage, never widen it.
- Fault tolerance
Lets a Copy activity keep going instead of failing when it meets rows that don't fit the destination, or files that are missing, forbidden or have invalid names. Skipped rows are counted in rowsSkipped and logging of them is optional.
- vSAN OSA
First-generation vSAN design. Storage is organised as disk groups, every one pairing a caching device with at least one device for capacity; ESA does away with these in favour of one storage pool.
