Terms in this definition
- Microsoft Fabric data agent tool
Lets a Foundry agent put questions to a Fabric data agent about enterprise analytics data; requests travel over a project connection on behalf of the user who is signed in.
- Workspace
Teams in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric collaborate in this folder-style container, which groups items such as reports, semantic models and lakehouses, controls who can access them and is assigned a capacity.
- NEXT
Restricted to visual calculations, this DAX function reads the value one step further along an axis of the visual matrix; writing OFFSET with 1 gives the same result.
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- LIKE
Compares strings with a pattern that can contain the % and _ wildcards. Because it only understands character patterns, searching big volumes of text this way is much slower than using full-text search.
Related terms
- Deployment plan
A preview Fabric item, living in a workspace, that lets you fix the order items are deployed in and run actions before or after deployment. It is linked to a deployment made through Git integration, a deployment pipeline or the REST API, rather than being run by itself.
- Deployment rules
Settings you configure for each stage of a deployment pipeline, covering data sources, parameters and the default lakehouse, so that content arriving in a stage connects to that stage's own data. Changes apply from the following deployment onwards.
- Fabric REST APIs
Microsoft's publicly documented web APIs for scripting Fabric work. Areas covered range from Git integration, with calls to commit to or update from a repository, through bulk import of item definitions, to promoting content between deployment pipeline stages.
- Gitflow
The branch-and-pull-request workflow used in Microsoft's subscription vending example: each request gets its own branch and a single parameter file for the new subscription. Merging the pull request into main starts the deployment pipeline.
- Pipeline admin
A deployment pipeline has just this one permission, which covers seeing, sharing, changing and removing it. Actually deploying additionally requires Contributor or above in the workspaces for the stages concerned.
- Power Query parameter
Queries and custom functions can refer to this typed, named value instead of hard-coding things like thresholds, file paths or servers. Edit it once and every reference follows; the service and deployment pipeline rules can also change it.
