Terms in this definition
- Azure Container Registry
Private Azure registry for container images. Images can be geo-replicated, cleaned up by retention policies and built by ACR Tasks, while webhooks let a push kick off continuous deployment.
- Premium
Hosting plan for Azure Functions that keeps instances pre-warmed to avoid cold starts and supports VNet integration. Executions time out after 30 minutes by default, which host.json can extend.
- Tag
Key-value label on compute (for cost tracking) or on a Unity Catalog securable or column, applied with
SET TAGorSET TAGSand requiringAPPLY TAG. Governed tags restrict allowed keys, values and assigners across the account.
Related terms
- 10-Year Audit Log Retention
An add-on licence assigned per user that lets audit records be kept for a decade. The user also needs Audit (Premium) and a retention policy covering those records, and older records are not extended retroactively.
- Delay hold
An automatic 30-day grace period: once a retention policy or hold is lifted from a site or mailbox, or a case is closed, content stays in place for that long instead of being permanently removed right away.
- Inactive mailbox
When a user account is removed, its mailbox is soft-deleted but preserved if a hold applied to it, such as Litigation Hold, an eDiscovery hold, or a retention policy or label set to retain. The preserved mailbox can still be searched with eDiscovery.
- Operational backup
Blob protection in Azure Backup that brings a uniform retention policy to many storage accounts.
- SEC Rule 17a-4
A US rule that records must be stored in a form that cannot be changed, meaning a retention policy cannot be switched off or made less strict after it starts. Preservation Lock in Purview supports compliance with it.
- Untagged manifest
Pushing a newer image under an existing tag leaves the previous manifest without one. That orphan still takes up registry storage until a retention policy, purge or delete removes it.
