Terms in this definition
- Hashing
A one-way function that converts data of any size into a fixed-length digest. Identical input always yields the identical digest, which makes it useful for detecting tampering and for storing passwords (usually salted); unlike encryption, the original cannot be recovered.
- TLS
Transport Layer Security, the encryption protocol for traffic like HTTPS and Bastion sessions over port 443. On a storage account, minimumTlsVersion fixes the oldest accepted version without opening any network access.
- Veeam ONE
A standalone Veeam product that monitors and reports on Veeam Backup & Replication and virtual environments in real time and documents them for the business. It can also measure how quickly VMs change, which helps with sizing.
- VARIANT
A type for semi-structured data like JSON whose structure isn't fixed, available from Databricks Runtime 15.4. It is preferred to storing JSON as strings but can't serve as a partition column.
Related terms
- SHA
The hash that uniquely names a Git commit. Referencing a template or GitHub action by its full commit SHA means the referenced code can't change.
