Each book explains VCF Installer in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- vSphere
VMware's platform for virtualisation, made up of vCenter and ESX hosts, supplying compute for VCF clusters.
- Azure Machine Learning environment
Versioned asset that pairs a Docker image with a pip or conda specification, so every job or deployment using it gets identical dependencies. You point to it by name plus a version number, or by name with @latest.
- VMware Cloud Foundation
Broadcom's platform for private cloud. It unifies management of NSX, vSAN, vSphere, VCF Automation and VCF Operations as one fleet; VVF, by contrast, lacks automation and cloud management.
- VCF Instance
Combination of a management domain with any number of workload domains, each instance having its own NSX, SDDC Manager and vCenters. A VCF fleet is made up of one or more of them.
- management domain
VCF domain built by the VCF Installer to host a VCF Instance's management components, plus fleet-wide components such as VCF Operations and VCF Automation in the first instance. Business workloads may run there too.
Related terms
- SDDC Manager mode
Permanent state a VCF Installer appliance adopts after deployment onto a host meant for the management domain: from then on it acts as that instance's SDDC Manager and can never install anything again.
- VMware Cloud Foundation account
Cloud account, or adapter, in VCF Operations for monitoring VCF objects like workload and management domains. Its name comes from the VCF Instance name given in the VCF Installer.
