Lets an organisation evaluate almost all Fabric workloads at no cost for 60 days, sized at F4 or F64. Once over, items that aren't Power BI content are kept for a week, giving time to move the workspace onto paid F or P capacity.

Each book explains Fabric trial capacity in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- EVALUATE
Keyword that every DAX query must contain; whatever table expression follows it becomes the query's output. Clauses such as DEFINE, ORDER BY and START AT may be added if needed.
- ALL
A DAX function that ignores any filters and gives back every row of a table or every value of the named columns. Used within CALCULATE, it works as a modifier that clears filters, although REMOVEFILTERS states that intent more clearly where it is available.
- F64
Equal in compute to a P1, this Fabric capacity has 64 capacity units. From this size upwards, Power BI content can be opened by people with just a Free licence and the Viewer role.
- OVER
Gives a T-SQL window function its window: PARTITION BY, ORDER BY and, if wanted, a ROWS or RANGE frame. Rankings and running totals can then be worked out while every row is kept.
- Power BI
Microsoft's analytics and reporting service. It reaches data held on-premises through the on-premises data gateway.
- Workspace
Teams in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric collaborate in this folder-style container, which groups items such as reports, semantic models and lakehouses, controls who can access them and is assigned a capacity.
- Capacity
A reserved block of compute for a tenant whose size is fixed by its SKU; Fabric F SKUs express it in capacity units (CUs). Workspaces assigned to it unlock features like Copilot, and from F64 upwards people with free licences can view Power BI content.
Related terms
- FT1
Name under which a Fabric trial capacity appears; trials generally give F64-equivalent resources for 60 days, although some are allocated F4.
