VCF's console for running the fleet. It covers alerting, monitoring, capacity, reporting, log analysis and licensing alongside fleet management of identity, passwords, certificates and lifecycle.
Also called formerly VMware Aria Operations, VMware Aria Operations.

Each book explains VCF Operations in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- VMware Cloud Foundation
Broadcom's platform for private cloud. It unifies management of NSX, vSAN, vSphere, VCF Automation and VCF Operations as one fleet; VVF, by contrast, lacks automation and cloud management.
- Capacity
A reserved block of compute for a tenant whose size is fixed by its SKU; Fabric F SKUs express it in capacity units (CUs). Workspaces assigned to it unlock features like Copilot, and from F64 upwards people with free licences can view Power BI content.
- Fleet management
VCF Operations area, running on its own appliance, that centrally looks after licences, lifecycle, identity, certificates, passwords, tags and drift for an entire fleet. Aria Suite Lifecycle is not upgraded into it but replaced by it.
- IDENTITY
A column property, written IDENTITY(seed, increment), that gives each new row the next number in a rising sequence. SCOPE_IDENTITY reports the latest value created in the current scope, and a rolled-back transaction still uses up the numbers it took.
Related terms
- Alert definition
The VCF Operations rule that decides when an alert fires for a given base object type. It brings together symptoms and optional recommendations, and sets the alert's criticality, type, subtype, impact, and how many cycles to wait before raising or cancelling it.
- Application monitoring high availability
An optional collector group setting in VCF Operations, off by default, that pairs cloud proxies as primary and secondary behind a shared virtual IP on one subnet. If a proxy is lost, application and operating-system monitoring through Telegraf carries on.
- arcuser
Account, belonging to arcgroup, under which the product-managed Telegraf agent runs on Linux machines monitored by VCF Operations. By default it is set up automatically, and it requires particular privileges.
- Business Application
A VCF Operations object that groups the connected applications, services and hosts behind a business service, letting them be watched as a single unit.
- Certificate management
Part of VCF Operations fleet management that shows TLS certificates for all VCF components in one place. It warns about expiry, configures CAs, generates CSRs, and replaces or automatically renews certificates.
- CIS
Center for Internet Security. Its guidance is offered inside VCF Operations twice over: a built-in regulatory benchmark and a dedicated compliance pack for VCF.
- Cloud account
An endpoint plus credentials, for example for vCenter, NSX, VCF, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, that VCF Operations and VCF Automation (VM Apps) use to gather data or provision resources.
- Cloud proxy
Also named the VCF Operations collector in the 9.0 installer and design guides. This appliance pulls metrics from vCenter, NSX and similar endpoints and pushes them, one way only, up to VCF Operations.
