Flash Optimized Azure Managed Redis keeps keys and hot values in memory while moving colder values, roughly 80 percent of capacity, onto this high-speed flash storage.

Terms in this definition
- Azure Managed Redis
Successor to Azure Cache for Redis: a managed, Redis Enterprise-based in-memory store, with Memory Optimized, Balanced, Compute Optimized and Flash Optimized tiers.
- Hot
The online blob access tier where storing data costs the most but accessing it costs the least.
- VALUES
Returns in DAX the distinct column values, or table rows, still visible after filters are applied, sometimes with an extra blank entry. CALCULATE often takes the result as a table filter.
- Capacity
A reserved block of compute for a tenant whose size is fixed by its SKU; Fabric F SKUs express it in capacity units (CUs). Workspaces assigned to it unlock features like Copilot, and from F64 upwards people with free licences can view Power BI content.
- General-purpose v1
The older storage account kind (
Storage), which lacks access tiers, Archive and premium file shares and retires on 13 October 2026. Converting to ZRS requires first upgrading to GPv2, a one-way change.
Related terms
- Discrete Device Assignment
A Hyper-V capability that hands an entire PCIe device, a graphics card or NVMe drive for example, directly to a single virtual machine.
- PCIe
Bus standard used by NVMe drives, GPUs and similar cards. With Discrete Device Assignment, one VM gets an entire such device to itself.
- SATA
A local disk interface, usually slower than NVMe or SAS. vSAN ESA cannot use it since that architecture requires NVMe.
- Serial Attached SCSI
SAS for short: the interface typically found on server drives and shared JBOD enclosures; Storage Spaces handles it alongside NVMe and SATA. Don't mix it up with Azure's shared access signatures.
- vSAN ESA
Newer vSAN design built for NVMe, with one tier and storage pools rather than disk groups. OSA is the older design, using two tiers.
