A universally unique identifier, 128 bits long. Where vSphere objects carry a managed object reference number, Veeam ONE uses the UUID or ID of Hyper-V objects in the same MoRef role.
Also called universally unique identifier.
In the Ultra Transcenders books
Each book explains UUID in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- BITS
A Windows service for downloads. Delivery Optimization hands downloads to it in Bypass mode (100), a mode now deprecated for Windows 11 that can cause failures with error 0x80d03002.
- WHERE
Limits a SELECT, UPDATE or DELETE to just the rows meeting a condition. Omit it, and the statement hits every row.
- vSphere
VMware's platform for virtualisation, made up of vCenter and ESX hosts, supplying compute for VCF clusters.
- Veeam ONE
A standalone Veeam product that monitors and reports on Veeam Backup & Replication and virtual environments in real time and documents them for the business. It can also measure how quickly VMs change, which helps with sizing.
- Hyper-V
The hypervisor built into Windows. The VMs for the Azure Extended Network appliance require the Hyper-V role, using nested virtualisation, and an external virtual switch for each NIC.
- MoRef
In a Business View CSV file, this field identifies each object. vSphere items use VMware's reference number; Hyper-V items use their ID or UUID.
- Role
How an actor normally or expectedly behaves, or the part a person takes in a process. A single actor may hold more than one role.
