Terms in this definition
- LAMP
Short for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (Perl and Python also fill the P): a widely used open-source stack for web applications whose database is frequently Azure Database for MySQL.
- ISO
The International Organization for Standardization. SQL became an ISO standard in 1987, twelve months after ANSI adopted it.
- backup server
The Windows or Linux machine running Veeam Backup & Replication, which manages and coordinates jobs, schedules and resources and keeps global settings. When first installed it also takes on the default proxy and repository roles.
- Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager
An optional component that brings multiple backup servers together under a single web portal. From there you can handle licensing, jobs, reporting, restores and self-service access.
- Veeam Host Management
The tool for setting up backup servers and infrastructure components deployed from Veeam's appliances, available both as a web interface (on port 10443) and as a text-based console interface.
- Veeam Updater
Keeps the Veeam Software Appliance and other appliance-based roles patched by fetching and applying new releases; since 13.1 it can patch Windows-based backup servers as well.
Related terms
- LVM
The volume manager for Linux. Extra disks on the Veeam Software Appliance are combined into a single spanned volume; Veeam Agent for Linux does not support clustered LVM.
- recovery token
Grants a single, temporary way into a backup: with Veeam Plug-ins and agents, a person who is not the owner can still recover it on the database server after a token is issued under Home > Backups. On Veeam Software Appliance it serves a different purpose, letting a Security Officer regain their account, and is saved at first sign-in.
- Security Officer
On Veeam Software Appliance and Veeam Infrastructure Appliance, this Host Management account approves sensitive actions requested by the Host Administrator. Skipping it during setup is allowed, yet adding one afterwards means reinstalling.
- Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam's flagship software for protecting and restoring data from VMs, physical machines, cloud services and file shares. Everything is orchestrated by a central backup server, either a Windows install or the Veeam Software Appliance.
