Terms in this definition
- Virtual machines
Infrastructure-as-a-service compute giving complete control of the operating system, making it a fit for lift-and-shift moves and for software relying on OS-level pieces like COM.
- Physical
Describes the concrete, real-world parts that put a logical architecture into effect.
- Shares
A relative weighting for dividing a contended resource such as memory, CPU, network bandwidth or disk I/O: double the shares earns double the entitlement. Reservations, by contrast, are guarantees and limits are ceilings.
- backup server
The Windows or Linux machine running Veeam Backup & Replication, which manages and coordinates jobs, schedules and resources and keeps global settings. When first installed it also takes on the default proxy and repository roles.
- Veeam Software Appliance
A hardened, minimal Linux (JeOS) ISO from Veeam that hosts the backup server and Enterprise Manager instead of a Windows installation. It is managed through Veeam Host Management and kept current by Veeam Updater.
