Both Functions timer NCRONTAB expressions and ACR task cron schedules are worked out against this time standard.
Also called Coordinated Universal Time.

Each book explains UTC in context, with comparison tables and the common traps.
Terms in this definition
- NCRONTAB
Schedule syntax for Azure Functions timer triggers: {second} {minute} {hour} {day} {month} {day-of-week}, where seconds may be omitted. Schedules follow UTC unless WEBSITE_TIME_ZONE changes that.
- Azure Container Registry
Private Azure registry for container images. Images can be geo-replicated, cleaned up by retention policies and built by ACR Tasks, while webhooks let a push kick off continuous deployment.
- Standard deployment type
A Foundry deployment type billed per token that keeps processing of prompts and responses inside the Azure geography of the resource, meeting data residency needs at lower volumes.
Related terms
- datetimeoffset
A data type holding a date and time together with an offset from UTC between -14:00 and +14:00. The offset is lost when the value is converted to datetime2.
- Get-PowerBIActivityEvent
A cmdlet in the Power BI Management PowerShell module that tenant admins use to pull Power BI and Fabric activity events. It calls the admin activity events API for one UTC day per request and deals with continuation tokens for you.
- GETDATE
A T-SQL function giving the database system's current date and time as datetime, with GETUTCDATE returning the UTC equivalent. NEWID isn't allowed inside a user-defined function, but GETDATE is.
- Period columns
In a system-versioned temporal table, two datetime2 columns (ROW START and ROW END, tied together by PERIOD FOR SYSTEM_TIME and marked GENERATED ALWAYS) holding the UTC span in which each version of a row was valid; the engine populates them itself.
- Power BI activity log
A record across the whole tenant of user actions in Fabric and Power BI. Admins fetch it a single UTC day at a time, going back no more than 28 days, using either the admin REST API Get Activity Events or the Get-PowerBIActivityEvent cmdlet.
- Run number
Every pipeline run gets a label, which YAML sets through name and Classic through Build number format. Unless changed it is \$(Date:yyyyMMdd).\$(Rev:r), and times are UTC.
- TimeGenerated
Present in Log Analytics tables as the standard time stamp, in UTC. Scheduled analytics rules count their lookback from it, which is why the query must return this column.
