Terms in this definition
- HAVING
Applies a condition to groups produced by GROUP BY, often on an aggregate such as SUM(). WHERE works earlier, on individual rows before they are grouped.
- ESX
VMware's bare-metal hypervisor, installed on each host in a VCF fleet. Up to version 9.0 it was known as ESXi.
- vCenter
Management software for VMs, clusters and ESX hosts. Each domain in VCF gets a dedicated one.
Related terms
- Amazon EC2
Amazon's virtual machine offering. Defender for Cloud can onboard EC2 instances automatically, installing Azure Arc and Defender components, when its AWS connector has Defender for Servers turned on.
- AMD SEV-SNP
Hardware feature from AMD that encrypts and isolates virtual machine memory; the confidential VM series DCasv5/DCadsv5 and ECasv5/ECadsv5 rely on it.
- Autoscaling local storage
Before a node's disk fills, extra managed disks are attached to it, up to 5 TB for each virtual machine. This is on by default for every compute resource and pool.
- Confidential VM
Virtual machine on Intel TDX or AMD SEV-SNP hardware, with memory encrypted against the host; it requires a confidential size such as DCasv5 or ECasv5 and a supported image.
- Discrete Device Assignment
A Hyper-V capability that hands an entire PCIe device, a graphics card or NVMe drive for example, directly to a single virtual machine.
- Dynamic Memory
A Hyper-V capability that gives a running virtual machine more or less memory as demand changes, staying within its configured startup, minimum and maximum amounts.
- Enhanced session mode
A VMConnect mode in Hyper-V that runs over RDP, giving a virtual machine's console window resizing, a shared clipboard, sound and redirection of local devices.
- GitHub-hosted runner
A new virtual machine, managed by GitHub, provided for each GitHub Actions job and chosen by a label such as ubuntu-latest. On GitHub Team and Enterprise Cloud, larger runners offer extra resources.
