Terms in this definition
- Geographic
A Traffic Manager routing method that picks the endpoint according to where the user is located geographically.
Related terms
- Agent endpoint
Fixed URL through which consumers call an agent by name. A version selector decides whether it always serves the newest version, without redeployment, or stays pinned to a single active version.
- Analyze image API
REST operation in Content Safety that rates a blob URL or base64-encoded picture against four harm categories, returning severity 0, 2, 4 or 6; it is called as
POST {endpoint}/contentsafety/image:analyze. - Application Gateway Basic SKU
Low-traffic Application Gateway v2 SKU that supports header rewrite but omits WAF, mTLS and URL rewrite.
- Availability tests
Synthetic monitoring in Application Insights, using standard tests or custom TrackAvailability tests; the older URL ping tests are deprecated and now retire on 30 September 2028 (originally 30 September 2026).
- Azure Application Gateway
A load balancer for web traffic that works at layer 7, sending HTTP and HTTPS requests to back ends based on host name or URL path. It can also handle TLS termination and run a web application firewall, which Azure Load Balancer cannot since it doesn't read web requests.
- Azure Front Door
Layer-7 global front end that fails over between origins using anycast, terminates TLS, routes requests by URL path and can apply a rate-limiting WAF.
- Azure Load Balancer
Layer-4 load balancer operating within a region, with zone redundancy on the Standard SKU; it has no WAF, doesn't terminate TLS and can't route by URL.
- Azure Load Testing
Managed service generating heavy traffic, from Locust or JMeter scripts or simple URL tests, against apps wherever they're hosted. For Azure apps it also captures server metrics, and test criteria can fail a CI/CD run.
